jeudi le 27 octobre 2016

Bonjour,

Reminder that students can bring items for the food drive until Monday.

Squash update: Our finalized dates for squash are November 1st, 15th and December 7th. We need a parent chaperone for the 15th ( Tues)  and the 7th (Wed.) Please email me if you can do either of these dates.

Devoirs:

Maths: Students need to finish questions 2-4 on prime & composite numbers as well as the "allez plus loin". Some students are taking the division re-test on Monday. Please review carefully on the weekend keeping in mind the suggestions/tips I've given you today (e.g. subtraction issues, making sure you didn't miss any groups when doing your initial calculation which will be apparent if you subtract and the answer is bigger than your divisor...)

Fral: Invent your own lines for the poem and illustrate (due tomorrow)

Sciences: Make sure you understood the handout from Wed. on Canada's contributions to space exploration and choose a project that you would like to do (there is a list of about 8 options).

A lundi,

Mme Couture

PS- Halloween costume competition on Monday...also, please bring PE strip!!!

mardi le 25 octobre 2016

Bonjour,

Important info for parents: Squash was canceled tomorrow because of a scheduling conflict at Cedar Hill Rec. We are rescheduling for November 15th. We also need to change the November 16th date because it falls on CC days so there is early dismissal. As soon as I have the final date I will send out an email to parents. Our current confirmed dates are:

Tuesday Nov. 1st
Tuesday Nov. 15th
Final date TBD

Devoirs:

Maths: We began prime and composite numbers today. Students were given several examples and some vocabulary definitions. There is also an explanation on the pink handout they received. I have asked students to complete questions 1-3 on the first page of the handout (we did an example of each question to help clarify what needs to be done).

Anglais: Students who are not yet finished their final two poems now need to complete them at home (they were due today). We began some descriptive writing and I have asked students to transform four different sentences given in class (most finished the first three during class). It would be great if students would do two versions of each sentence (add descriptive words) to show the kind of difference adding precise/descriptive words can make to a sentence.

Don't forget about the food drive : )

Bonjour,

Reminder to bring non perishable food items to donate to the mustard seed food drive (happening all this week).

Immunizations were today so some students might be experiencing a sore arm/shoulder.

Squash is this Wednesday...still missing a few permission forms!

Devoirs:

Anglais: Good copy of final two poems are due (choice of two different poems from the styles described on the orange handout from a couple of weeks ago---not the cinquain or diamond poems). If you can't finish both good copies in the one block we have tomorrow make sure you work on them at home tonight. A few students are still not finished the draft of their poems...if that is you, make sure you get caught up tonight and maybe stay in at lunch tomorrow in the library to work on them.

SURVEY: A survey went home today asking how students get to and from school (from Saanich). This is in order to potentially improve services for students in terms of city planning. First class to get all the surveys in wins a prize!

PE: Bring PE strip tomorrow for gym class

Photo retakes tomorrow afternoon!

Bonjour,

No school tomorrow!

Remember to bring non perishable food items (if you are able) for the Mustard Seed food drive this month. Donations collected during advisory every day.

Devoirs:

Maths: Division quiz on Monday. Make sure to complete BOTH sides of the review sheet from today if you didn't finish in class (most students still have a couple of questions to do). If you DID finish but are not feeling like you are ready to ace the test, make up a couple of questions a day to maintain understanding/confidence/accuracy.

Anglais: Good copy of final two poems due Tuesday. Most students are on their final good copy but a few still need to finish one or both drafts. If the latter applies to you, be prepared to show me your COMPLETED drafts (nothing missing) during Advisory on Monday.

Have a great long weekend!

Mme Couture

Bonjour,

Reminder to a few students to please get your squash forms in with $ as our first day is next Wed. the 26th

Devoirs:

Fral: Drawing for Le serpent bleu or Des chevaux de neige

Maths: Complete both sides of the review we started yesterday (three problem solving questions and six calculations) if you are not already finished after yesterday & today's work time in class. Students who are finished can continue to practice by making up a couple of questions a day and checking with a calculator (e.g. 45 divided by 48 (decimal answer); 458 divided by 27; 784 divided by 16 ...)

Anglais: We had a presentation today by Mark Albany who talked about the medicine circle and life balance with our spiritual, emotional, physical and mental selves. Share what you learned with parents about how these four areas of self are interconnected and can become unbalanced.  More time given Thursday for good copies of final two poems (some students are still needing to submit their diamond poems due last Monday!)

Bonjour,

Please get Squash permission forms in!

Devoirs:

PE strip needed for tomorrow!

Anglais: Some students STILL need to complete two drafts for their final two poems. This was due today so please ensure you have something to show me tomorrow if you are behind. There is still time for those doing their good copies.

Sciences Humaines: A handful of students still need to finish their posters on food waste. Please hand in tomorrow or stay in at lunch to complete!

Maths: Everyone should have questions a-e completed for tomorrow from today's handout on long division with decimals. Students doing the multiplication retest will have a chance to take it tomorrow or Thursday at the latest.

Fral: Complete the drawings for Le serpent bleu or Des chevaux de neige for Wednesday

If students can each bring a box of kleenex for our supply cupboard that would be awesome so that we can have a classroom supply of kleenex to get us through germ season!

Bonjour,

Reminder to bring in all scholastic orders tomorrow or Monday at the absolute latest!

Please bring in squash permission forms and 15$. We still need a parent chaperone for October 26th

Devoirs:

Maths: For students doing the math retest next week on double digit multiplication with decimals, please continue to do two practice questions a day to prepare and check your work with a calculator. If you make a mistake, redo the question to find your error.

All students are now working on long division with decimals. Please complete a minimum of FIVE long division problems from today's handout. Try doing a couple a day in order to solidify understanding of procedure and look to the class examples for clarification

Potentially helpful step by step youtube video explanation (copy and paste url to go to link) :

Anglais: Some diamond poems still need to be submitted (due this past Monday). Continue to work on drafts of final two poems. You need to pick 2 DIFFERENT styles from the handout.

Fral: M D'Entremont has started a French language home reading program with the librarian. All students should be reading 15-20 minutes a day in French (can be an article, book, comic...). They can find something at their reading level in the school library.

PE: Don't forget gym strip for Monday's PE class : )!

Bonjour,

Reminder that there is a Cops for Cancer assembly tomorrow. Any last minute donations are welcome. There will definitely be some students and teachers with less hair after tomorrow! Way to go Lansdowne!!

FORMS WENT HOME TODAY: Please give parents permission form for squash field trips and the extra copy of your weekly timetable.

Devoirs:

Maths: Please practice long division. There are a couple of questions from today's handout you can tackle but also try watching a Youtube video explaining it particularly if you were one of the many who needed to go over more examples. We did two/three together today in class but it's a concept many students don't remember a lot about from last year. Frequent and ongoing practice will be the key to understanding this concept!!

Anglais: Please complete your diamond poem  (good copy) for Tuesday. One or two students are a bit behind on this and need to show me their draft still. If this is you, please ensure you check in with me during Advisory on Tuesday to get caught up.

Sciences Humaines: You should have shown Mme Chaytors your draft for Food Waste Poster at this point. More time will be given on Tuesday to finish up the good copy. Make sure to check in with her tomorrow (Friday) if you have been away at all this week as your next class is not until Tuesday.

Joyeuse Action de Grace!
